Geothermal energy
| Geothermal energy is the form of energy stored in rocks and fluids beneath the surface of the solid earth. Utilizing this energy is becoming increasingly important for the energy supply of the future. The State Geological Surveys of Germany provide essential information on the efficient use of geothermal energy for a given location.
Since 2006, Leibniz-Institut für Angewandte Geophysik (Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics, LIAG, formerly GGA) is developing the Geothermal Information System for deep geothermal energy in Germany. Following a decision of the directors of the State Geological Surveys (SGD), the system will be operated by the German States. At present, this transition is in preparation.
